After a storm, the worst thing you can do is call the insurance company before someone has actually looked at your roof. Filing a claim that turns out to be cosmetic-only puts a mark on your insurance history for nothing. We climb the roof first, document what’s actually there, and tell you whether it’s worth filing.

Sellers Roofing is a contractor, not a public adjuster
That distinction matters. Public adjusters negotiate the dollar amount of your claim with the insurance company for a percentage fee. We don’t do that. We document the damage that’s on your roof and meet your adjuster up there to make sure nothing gets missed. If the adjuster’s scope is incomplete, we supplement it with a written report. Then we install what your policy covers.
How a storm claim actually works
- Free storm assessment β we climb the roof and photograph hail strikes, wind lift, or impact damage.
- Honest go/no-go β if it’s cosmetic-only or below your deductible, we say so. No claim filed.
- Filing the claim β you call your insurance and start the claim. Your adjuster schedules a roof inspection.
- Adjuster meeting β we meet them on the roof, walk through the damage, and document anything they miss.
- Scope review β once you get the loss summary, we review it and supplement if needed.
- Install β we replace the roof per the approved scope, you pay your deductible, claim closes.
What hail damage actually looks like
Functional hail damage on asphalt shingles shows up as round bruises where the granules have been knocked off, exposing the mat underneath. Not every dark spot is hail. Wear, blistering, manufacturing defects, and even foot traffic can mimic it. That’s why a written, photo-documented assessment matters before anyone files a claim.
